Matthew Scally
Academic Coordinator

Now in his 11th year at LIU and fourth year in his current position, Scally is responsible for monitoring academic progress so that the student-athlete meets and exceeds the University’s academic goals in compliance with NCAA and institutional standards.

Acting as a liaison among student-athletes, their instructors and their coaches, he meets with and surveys instructors regularly for progress reports and for recommendations as to how to better manage the workload in each class.

Scally, along with the director and senior associate director of athletics, has formed close relationships with the academic advisement office and counseling center to assist the student-athlete in negotiating the demands of daily practices and games.

Last year, LIU athletes earned an overall grade-point average of 3.05, the highest mark since the school has been a member of the Northeast Conference.

In 2000-01, LIU athletes registered an overall G.P.A. of 3.0 and were recognized by the NCAA and USA Today for having the highest graduation rate in the nation as compared to the remainder of the student body.

Scally earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in athletic administration from St. John’s University in 1991. He completed his Master’s Degree in guidance and counseling from LIU in 1997.
