Andrew Walker, former coordinator of employer
and government relations at LIU, was promoted to senior associate
director of athletics last year. He is responsible for the departments
external affairs, including marketing and fundraising.
In his first four years, Walker has helped
raise awareness of the athletics program in the downtown Brooklyn
community. He has coordinated several community outreach programs
and has also acted as coordinator and department liaison with the
NCAAs Youth Education Through Sports (Y.E.S.) program.
Walker is instrumental in assisting director
of athletics John Suarez with various projects. Among his and Suarez
recent achievements was the establishment of the LIU Athletics Hall
of Fame and the Blackbird Club.
From 1995-97, Walker worked with Business
Improvement Districts to identify governmental issues that affected
the University. He also organized an undergraduate job opportunity
program and served on various business and community boards in Brooklyn.
