Parker closing in on scoring record

Senior Richie Parker has moved into seventh place on LIU's all-time scoring list with 1,433 career points, three points shy of passing the legendary Sherman White for the number six spot. Joe Griffin (1991-95) is the school's all-time leader with 1,830 points.

Parker, who arrived much-heralded in the 1996-97 season, has been a model of consistency in his four years in Downtown Brooklyn. As a freshman in 1996-97, he averaged 16.1 points and 7.6 rebounds in helping the Blackbirds to a NCAA Tournament berth. The following year he produced 15.9 points and 7.3 boards in helping the squad to a NIT appearance. Last season he averaged 15.4 points and 5.4 rebounds.

The 6'5" New York City native missed the first four games of the 1999-00 season with strained ligaments in his right foot, but has returned to average 11.4 points and 3.4 rebounds per contest. He registered a season-high 21 points in a Dec. 29 loss to Maine.

Parker is a two-time All-Northeast Conference selection and is also the NEC active scoring leader with his 1,433 points.
