Blackbirds' Dream Season Ends in Semis



Kim Mac Millan erupted for a career-high 32 points and grabbed 10 rebounds, but the Blackbirds' magic carpet irde season ended with an 88-76 loss to eventual champion St. Francis (PA) in the semifinal round of the Northeast Conference Tournament on March 4th in Trenton, NJ.

Mac Millan's effort was offset by a 46-point, 16-rebound performance by NEC Player of the Year Jess Zinobile.

The Blackbirds stayed close with the Red Flash for most of the contest and Mac Millan tied the contest at 58-58 on a three-pointer with 7:53 left to play. The Red Flash then went on a 10-4 run to open up a 68-62 lead with 6:09 to go and were never headed.

Freshman Tamika Dudley nearly contributed her first career triple-double with 14 points, nine rebounds and nine assists and senior Kellye Townsend added eight points and 10 boards in what was her final collegiate contest.

LIU finished the year with a record of 13-16, an 11-game turnaround from the previous season.

Mac Millan who finished the year with a 20.3 ppg average was named NEC Rokkie of the Year after earning Rookie of the Week honors eight times. She was the conference's second leading scorer and was the fourth leading scorer in the nation among freshmen. Dudley was also named to the All-Rookie team.
