Abdel-Baaith Stars for Blackbirds at NEC's

Senior Fateen Abdel-Baaith returned from a knee sprain to post a victory at 400 meters at the Northeast Conference Outdoor Track and Field Championships, held at Btitleimore, MD, this past weekend. Abdel-Baaith finished in an NEC outdoor record time of 55.27 to claim the 13th conference championship of her career.

Abdel-Baaith, who also placed second at 200m (24.37), led the Blackbird women to a fifth-place finish, just 10 points out of second-place. She was supported by freshman Sakinah Patterson who placed second at 800m (2:16.70) and at 1500m (4:44.86).

The biggest surprise for LIU came in the shot-put where Beth Lawrence posted a second-place finish (12.76m).

The women's 4x100m relay team of Abdel-Baaith, Camilla Harris, Georgette Lewis and Tasha Moore also placed second in a time of 47.60.

The Blackbird men finished in eighth-place overall. Freshman sprinter Kishwayne Virgo finished third at 100m (11.16) and sixth at 200m (22.69).

LIU's 4x400m relay team of Virgo, Stephan Shaw, Jason Edwards and Hakeem Omolade finished in fifth-place in a time of 3:18.25.
