Jayne Ciarlante tabbed new Senior Woman Administrator

Aug. 1, 2001

Long Island University did not have to look far to find a new senior woman administrator, hiring former trainer Jayne Ciarlante to fill the role.

Ciarlante was the Blackbirds' trainer from 1997-2001 after serving one year as the assistant trainer. Her duties included monitoring athletic-related injuries and overseeing numerous graduate and student trainers, most of whom are enrolled in the campus' renowned athletic training program.

A graduate of Hofstra University with a degree in exercise science/athletic training, Ciarlante earned her Master's Degree in education from St. Peter's College.

Ciarlante replaces Margaret Alaimo, who was at LIU the last 14 years including four as the SWA. Alaimo played a pivotal role in the school's NCAA certification in 1996 and also was the Blackbirds women's basketball coach from 1987-90.

Danny O'Connor, LIU's assistant trainer since 1997 and a graduate assistant from 1994-96, replaces Ciarlante as the head trainer. Tracye Rawls-Martin, a graduate assistant at LIU from 1998-2000, was selected as the new assistant trainer.
