Antawn Dobie named third team Division I All-Met

Antawn Dobie (Corona, NY) capped a brilliant senior year for Long Island by being selected third team All-Met for men's basketball by the Metropolitan Basketball Writers Association.

The awards are given to the elite players from the tri-state area and the official presentation will take place Wednesday, April 24 at the Meadowlands Racetrack in East Rutherford, NJ.

Dobie led the Northeast Conference in scoring with 21.2 ppg, and also led the Blackbirds and placed second in the NEC in assists (5.2 apg) and steals (2.3 spg). He paced the team in scoring 18 of his 26 games this season and tallied at least 30 points on seven occasions.

The 6'0" combo guard registered his 1,000th career point during the campaign and graduates with 1,131 to rank 17th on the school's all-time list. His 304 assists rank him fifth.

The Blackbirds (5-22, 5-15 NEC) are coming off a season that saw the resignation of head coach Ray Martin. He was replaced on an interim basis by Ron Brown following an 0-9 start and former Adelphi head man Jim Ferry became the school's 12th coach April 1.
