Virgo wins twice, Georgette Lewis and women's 4x400 relay team also
victorious at NEC Championships

Sophomore Kishwayne Virgo
won a pair of gold medals with junior Georgette Lewis and the women's
4x400 meter relay team also capturing first place for Long Island
this weekend at the Northeast Conference Outdoor Championships in
Btitleimore, MD.
Virgo (Plainfield, NJ)
captured the 100 meter dash in 11.14 seconds, winning by just six
hundredths of a second. The sophomore standout was not done, following
with a victory in the 200 meter dash in 21.88 seconds for his first
conference titles.
Lewis (Bronx, NY) grabbed
her first NEC individual title by winning the 400 intermediate hurdles
in 1:02.15. The Blackbirds grabbed the top three spots as sophomore
Kemelia Campbell (Jackson, NJ) finished second in 1:02.74 and junior
Patricia Metzger (Philadelphia, PA) was third in 1:04.08.
The women's 4x400 relay
squad defended their crown by stopping the clock in 3:51.37. The
team was comprised of Lewis, Campbell, junior Sakinah Patterson
(Staten Island, NY) and freshman Destinee Mc Cray (Rockville, MD).
That brought the number
of NEC champions for the Blackbirds this year to six as Patterson
and junior Camilla Harris (Pine Hill, NJ) each won indoor titles.
Other superlatives for
the men included the 4x100 meter relay team finishing third in 42.27
seconds, falling just 0.6 seconds short. Sophomore Louis Smith (Burlington,
NJ) was fourth in the long jump with a leap of 6.99 meters and junior
Scott Gomez (Brooklyn, NY) was fourth in the 400 intermediate hurdles
in 55.76 seconds.
Freshman phenom Ashley
Carter-Sinclair (Staten Island, NY) was fifth in the triple jump
at 13.63 meters.
Mc Cray continued her
torrid season by finishing second in the women's 400 meter dash
in 57.24 seconds and fourth in the 200 meter dash in 25.96 seconds.
LIU had a trio of ladies
post fifth-place finishes. Lewis ran the 100 meter intermediate
hurdles in 15.24 seconds, freshman Maudelyn Debrosse (Woodside,
NY) had a leap of 5.39 meters in the long jump and sophomore Sonrisa
Garcia (Sante Fe, NM) had a toss of 11.8 meters in the shot put.
The women finished in
sixth place with 66 points and the men were seventh with 45 points.
