Mar. 17, 2001

Long Island's most successful season in over two decades ended tonight in its first NCAA Tournament appearance, 101-29 against top-seeded Connecticut in Storrs, CT.

Champions of the Northeast Conference, the Blackbirds (16-15) finished with the most victories since their 1976-77 campaign and closed with a winning mark for the first time since the 1979-80 season.

Seeded 16th in the East Region, LIU was no match for the defending national champions. The Huskies scored the game's first 18 points and had the Blackbirds on their heels. Six players scored in double figures for Connecticut, which shot 58 percent (44-of-76) from the field.

Sophomore Kim Mac Millan (Toms River, NJ) scored 15 points for the Blackbirds, but was just 6-of-25 from the floor and 2-of-16 from 3-point range.

Mac Millan closed the season with 576 points, 18 shy of her own single-season school record. She has scored 1,170 career points, sixth best in school history, and has nailed a 3-pointer in 44 straight contests.

Fellow standout Tamika Dudley (Woodbridge, VA) struggled to just five points on 1-of-15 shooting and was hounded all game by a persistent defense. Dudley closed the season with 502 points, third best in LIU annals, and has 805 career points.

The Blackbirds shot just 15 percent (10-of-65) from the floor, 3-of-22 from beyond the arc and were outrebounded, 57-31.
