Jackie McCormick's late tally lifts Women's Soccer to a 2-1 win over Robert Morris

Oct. 11, 2002

Freshman Jackie McCormick (Liverpool, NY) scored in the 84th minute as Long Island capped a 2-1 come-from-behind win over Robert Morris at Moon Township, PA in Northeast Conference action.

McCormick tallied her second goal of the season by taking a cross from senior Rosette Rough (Carson City, NV) and beating goalkeeper Shana Berardi.

For the second straight contest, the Blackbirds (4-8, 2-2 NEC) fell behind early. Robert Morris striker Katie Dugan, who attempted a game-high five shots, slipped one past keeper Mary Jaeger (Hazlet, NJ) in the 13th minute off a pass by Amanda Rambo to give the Colonials a 1-0 lead.

Blackbirds senior Laura Brosious (Williamstown, NJ) sparked the comeback as a reserve, notching the equalizer off consecutive passes by freshmen Fabrieanna Rezayat (Bainbridge Island, WA) and Meghann McCormick (Liverpool, NY) in the 29th minute. For Brosious, it marked her first goal of the season and 12th career.

Jaeger remained steady between the pipes for the Blackbirds, going the final 77 minutes without allowing a goal. She made seven saves and Berardi came up with nine for the Colonials (2-9-1, 1-3).

LIU outshot Robert Morris, 16-13.

The Blackbirds will have a chance to sweep their Pennsylvania trip for the first time as they travel to St. Francis (PA) for a contest Sunday at 2:00 pm.
