Kenny Cedel Named Akadema NEC Rookie of the Week

3/27/06 -- Freshman Kenny Cedel (Staten Island, N.Y.) was named Akadema Northeast Conference Baseball Rookie of the Week for the week ending March 27.

Cedel hurled seven shutout innings against Sacred Heart on Sunday to earn his first collegiate win, 7-0, and notch Rookie of the Week honors. The rookie lefthander scattered six hits and allowed just seven baserunners on the day to help snap an 11-game Long Island losing streak.

Along with his 0.00 ERA against the Pioneers, he struck out seven batters and did not allow a walk in the game. Over his last two outings, Cedel has allowed just two earned runs over 13.1 innings for a 1.37 ERA.

On the year, the rookie hurler is 1-2 with a 6.00 ERA in four games, and has 17 K’s and only six bases on balls.

The LIU baseball team returns to action on Tuesday, Mar. 28 at home against St. Peter's at 3:00 p.m.
