4/2/06 -- The Monmouth University offense continued its impressive run, pounding out 18 hits including seven of the extra-base variety en route to a 14-1 victory over Long Island University on Sunday afternoon at LIU Field in collegiate baseball action.

Senior Sean Durkin (Damascus, Md.) had two hits for LIU, which dropped to 4-15-1 and 1-5 in Northeast Conference play.

The Blackbirds scored their only run of the game when sophomore Danny Pirillo (Marlboro, N.Y.) dashed home on a passed ball in the third inning. LIU again struggled with runners in scoring position, going 0-for-9 on the day.

Monmouth broke open a 1-0 game in the third, as eight Hawks crossed the plate in the frame. Senior center fielder Patrick Sullivan had the big hit of the inning, a two-run triple that found the right center field gap. On the day, Sullivan went 4-for-5 with a triple, home run and four RBI and narrowly missed batting for the cycle by a double.

Over the past four games, Monmouth has averaged 17.8 runs per game, including a 35-run outburst at Temple last Wednesday.

Freshman Kenny Cedel (Staten Island, N.Y.) suffered the loss for the Blackbirds, allowing seven earned runs on seven hits over 2 2/3 innings.

LIU travels to Hofstra on Tuesday, April 4 for a non-conference tilt scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
