Baseball Signs Pair to National Letters of Intent

6/9/06 --Long Island University head baseball coach Don Maines has announced the signing of Daniel Iglesias (San Diego, Calif.) and Adam Sauter (Btitleimore, Md.) to National Letters of Intent for the 2007 season.
Iglesias helped Madison High School to two consecutive Harbor League championships in the San Diego, Calif. area. The right-handed pitcher posted a 3-1 record as a junior last season, garnering a 2.89 ERA and picking up three saves.

The Pre-Season Puma All-American played summer ball for the Clairemont Red team of the Califonia Colt League and featured an unblemished earned run average -0.00-over 11 innings. Iglesias was selected to play for Team San Diego in the prestigious Arizona Senior Fall Classic. The 5-11 hurler also starred on the football field, earning second team All-Central League honors and leading the team in tackles with 88. Iglesias carries a 3.2 GPA in the classroom and will study Athletic Training at LIU.

Sauter is a four-year varsity starter for head coach Randy Gasts’ squad at Btitleimore Lutheran High School. The 6-5 left-hander struck out 62 batters in 47 innings of work this past summer for his American Legion team and finished with a 6-1 record and a sparkling 0.47 ERA. He was also a member of the Maryland Orioleanders, a select fall team featuring the top players in the state of Maryland.

This spring, Sauter is currently 2-0 for the Saints and has tallied 19 strikeouts in 13 innings. A standout in the classroom, Sauter was nominated by his high school for the Wendy’s High School Heisman Award, given to the nation’s top high school seniors who best exemplify a supreme “citizen-scholar-athlete.” He currently has a 3.3 GPA and will study Business/Finance upon his arrival in downtown Brooklyn.

Iglesias and Sauter join five other players that signed during the early signing period last fall. They are: Gregory DeSantis (Bridgewater, N.J.), Jesse Johnson (Dingman’s Ferry, Pa.), James Jones (Brooklyn, N.Y.), Christopher Kievit (Wayne, N.J.), and Gerard Tingos (Staten Island, N.Y.).
