Rowen Named Akadema Northeast Conference Player of the Week

5/9/06 -- Junior third baseman Robbie Rowen was named the Akadema Northeast Conference Baseball Player of the Week for the week of April 30-May 7, as announced by the conference today. The selection marks the first time this season a Blackbird has won the award.

Rowen batted .625 (10-for-16) with five runs scored, one home run and three runs batted in as he helped lead LIU to a pair of conference wins over Mount St. Mary’s over the weekend.

He opened the week with a 3-for-5 performance which included an RBI and stolen base in a 5-4 setback to Fordham on Tuesday.

In a doubleheader split at Mount St. Mary’s on Saturday, Rowen went 3-for-6 and collected two RBI over the two games. He tallied his first home run of the season, a solo shot, in a 6-2 nightcap win to help LIU snap a nine-game losing skid. The Rosendale, N.Y. native continued his hot hitting in the Sunday rubber match with Mount, going 4-for-5 with four runs scored as the Blackbirds won their second straight, 13-3.

On the season, Rowen tops Long Island with 21 RBI and ranks second in batting average (.303), hits (43) and total bases (51).
