Blackbirds Fall to Northern Illinois, 18-6

3/11/07 -- In a reversal of fortunes from the previous day, the Long Island University baseball team was handed an 18-6 defeat at the hands of Northern Illinois at the Papa John Palm Beach Challenge. The loss follows a 13-5 win over St. Bonaventure on March 10.

Senior Rich Moran (Carmel, N.Y.) was saddled with the loss after lasting only 2 1/3 innings. Moran left in the third with an injury. Senior Trey Bell (Georgetown, Del.) went 3-for-3 at the plate and freshman James Jones had another productive day, going 2-for-3 and driving in a pair of runs. Greg DeSantis (Bridgewater, N.J.) went 2-for-2 with a triple and an RBI.

The Blackbirds will continue their five-day Florida road swing tomorrow, taking on New Jersey Institute of Technology at 2:30 p.m.
