5/10/05 -- Long Island was detitle a 12-0 loss at Hofstra to close non-conference play in Hempstead, N.Y.

Sophomore Marcus Wynn (Plainfield, N.J.) got the Blackbirds’ lone hit, a single through the left side to lead off the third inning. LIU (12-23) in the first looked to crack the scoreboard, but left the bases loaded after junior Matt Martino (Staten Island, N.Y.) grounded out.

The Pride (21-29) scored in the bottom of the first on Ricky Caputo’s RBI groundout and plated seven in the third for an 8-0 lead. Pat Rogers highlighted the inning with a grand slam to left field.

Belle Harbor, N.Y. junior Matthew Bunyan (0-9) permitted seven runs -- four earned -- and five hits over two innings for the Blackbirds.

Mike Xydias (2-1) pitched strongly for Hofstra over five scoreless innings. He had one strikeout and yielded one hit along with three walks. Josh Stewart had three of the Pride’s 12 hits in a contest shortened to seven innings due to the mercy rule.

LIU resumes Northeast Conference play Saturday with a doubleheader against Mount St. Mary’s. First pitch is at 12:00 pm and will take place at Narrows Complex in Brooklyn.
