7/2/07 -- Former Long Island University baseball player Robby Rowen (Rosendale, N.Y.) has agreed to terms to play for the Herkimer Trailbusters of the independent New York State League. Rowen, who played right field for the Blackbirds during his recently-completed senior campaign, also served as the team’s closer.

Rowen tallied four saves while compiling a 4-1 record with a 3.66 ERA. He had an impressive year at the plate, earning Long Island’s player of the year honors. Rowen hit .306 with 24 RBIs and one homer. (more)

6/11/07 -- Long Island University baseball recruit Brian Wabick (Palos Park, Ill.) was selected by the Houston Astros on the second day of the Major League Baseball first-year player draft on June 8. Wabick, a right-handed pitcher, was taken in the 34th round with the 1,038th pick. He signed with the Astros on June 12.

Wabick signed a National Letter-of-Intent in November to play for the Blackbirds beginning with the 2008 season. The hard-throwing righty pitched for Oakton (Ill.) Community College during 2007, appearing in 13 games. In 72 innings, he struck out 78 batters while compiling a 7-5 record and a 2.25 ERA. (more)
