Men's Golf Finishes Third at Cape May Invitational

 

4/19/06 -- Freshman Greg Nicolson (Edinburgh, Scotland) recorded his first top-ten finish of his career in helping the Long Island University men's golf team to a third place finish at the Cape May Invitational, hosted by Mount St. Mary's, over the weekend.

Nicolson shot 77-76-77 to end in a tie for sixth place. Junior Patrick Kelly (Brisbane, Australia) shot a second-round 76, tying Nicolson for team-low round honors. Kelly ended in a tie for 13th.

Freshman Rob Gallagher (Morganton, N.C.) shot a third-round 77 to close in a tie for 19th, the best finish of his career.

Niagara University won the team title, posting a three-day total of 910. The Purple Eagles' Don Bryson led the charge, finishing at 223 for medalist honors.

LIU was the top Northeast Conference finisher, edging Monmouth by five strokes at 945. The Mount and Fairleigh Dickinson also represented the NEC and ended in sixth and 10th, respectively.
