The Long Island University men’s and women’s
golf team competed at the Fairfield Spring Invitational at
Heather’s Glen Golf Club in Myrtle Beach, S.C. over
the weekend. The women’s team took home the title,
while the men’s team finished in second place.
Freshman
Natalie Desjardins (Haileybury, Ontario) recorded her first
collegiate victory. Two consecutive rounds of 80 pushed
the first-year player to her second consecutive top-10 finish
and fourth overall.
Sophomore Heather
Pothier (Truro, Nova Scotia) tied for second at 164. The women
won the team
championship
with a two-day total of 676.
Also recording a second place finish on the men’s side
was junior Patrick Kelly (Brisbane, Australia). Kelly closed
with a final-round 73 to finish at 151 over the two rounds. Junior
Matt Wilson (Toronto, Ontario) ended in a tie for fourth at 153.
The men’s team placed second with a total of 634.
The men’s golf team continues its spring season on Mar.
17-19 at the Lonnie Barton Invitational in Bluffton, S.C. The
tournament is held in memory of the former LIU golf coach who
passed away from cancer in 2004.
The women’s team next
competes at the Monmouth Spring Classic on Apr. 1-3.
