3/9/06 -- The
Long Island University men's golf team has been tabbed to
finish fourth in the Northeast Conference, in a in a vote
of league head coaches.
The Blackbirds lost all five
letterwinners from last season's NEC runner-up squad. Last
year's champion Central Connecticut State received six first-place
votes and were picked to finish first. Monmouth received three
votes for the top spot while Robert Morris garnered the remaining
ballot.
Juniors Patrick Kelly (Brisbane,
Australia) and Matt Wilson (Toronto, Ontario) will both be
looked upon to lead the team. Three freshman, led by Greg Nicolson
(Edinburgh, Scotland), round out the revamped group.
A trip to Myrtle Beach, S.C.
highlights LIU's spring schedule. The Fairfield Spring Invitational
on Mar. 12-14 begins the week-long voyage. It is followed up
by a weekend tournament honoring former LIU head golf coach
Lonnie Barton at Pinecrest Golf Club in Bluffton, S.C. Mar.
