Four Blackbirds recorded top-ten finishes as the LIU women's
golf team posted its first victory of the season at the
Monmouth Hawk Invitational in Lakewood, N.J. over the weekend.
Freshman Natalie
Desjardins (Haileybury, Ontario) led the way, finishing sixth
at 163. Sophomore Heather Pothier (Truro, Nova Scotia) notched
her best finish as a Blackbird with a tie for eighth at 164.
Junior Erica Chong (Hilo, Hawaii) and freshman Emma Lister
(Manchester, England) each finished a shot behind Pothier to
end tied for 10th.
For Desjardins,
it was her fifth top-ten finish of the season and third consecutive.
The freshman tied for eighth at the Fighting Camel Spring Classic
March 5-7, then recorded her first collegiate victory at the
Fairfield Spring Invitational the following week.
The team finished
at 657, nine shots in front of the University of Hartford.
LIU also defeated five conference opponents in the tournament.
St. Francis (PA) was the closest league
competitor
at 670.
The women's golf
team travels to Harrisonburg, Va. to compete in the Lady Dukes
Invitational, hosted by James Madison University, Apr. 7-9.
