10/29/06 --
Sophomore Natalie Desjardins (Haileybury, Ontario) recorded her second career
tournament victory as the Long Island University women's
golf team won the Mount St. Mary's Fall Invitational over
the weekend.
Junior Heather Pothier
(Truro, Nova Scotia) was the runner-up at 167 as all four Blackbird
golfers finished in the top ten.
As a team, LIU won
by 18 strokes over second-place Mount St. Mary's. It was the
Blackbirds' first team victory of the season. Desjardins shot
a second-round 78 to take home the four-stroke victory. Her
second round total was six strokes better than any other round
of the tournament.
Last season,
the Canadian won the Fairfield Invitational (3/13-14) and
Pothier also finished
runner-up in that event,
four strokes behind Desjardins.
Sophomore Emma
Lister (Manchester, England) finished tied for fourth position
at 176, while classmate Rochelle
Brown (Calgary, Alberta) closed in ninth place at 186.
The Blackbirds
conclude their fall season on Nov. 2-5 at the Virginia
Beach Intercollegiate, hosted by Old Dominion University.
