Men's Golf Tied For Third After Day One of Northeast Conference Championships

5/6/06 -- Freshman Kyle Margentina (Homer Glen, Ill.) fired a season-best 76 (+4) to lift Long Island University to a first round score of 309 and a tie of third after the first round of the 2006 Northeast Conference Men's Golf Championships. Margentina shot the front nine at even-par 36. His previous career-low came at The McLaughlin this fall where he shot 80.

Junior Matt Wilson (Toronto, Ontario) closed second individually for the Blackbirds, carding a 77. Freshman Greg Nicolson (Edinburgh, Scotland) and junior Patrick Kelly (Brisbane, Australia), playing in the final two groups of the day, both recorded 78's.

St. Francis (PA) topped the leaderboard with a 302. Sacred Heart fired 308 to close day one in second place, followed by LIU and Central Connecticut State (309). The Blackbirds won the third-place tiebreaker as their fifth score bested the Blue Devils.

Red Flash sophomore Steve Foisy had the low individual score on the day, posting an even-par 72 at the Disney's Palm Golf Course in Orlando, Fla.

The final round commences on Sunday, May 7 beginning at 7:20 a.m.
