Men's Golf Closes Third at Northeast Conference Championships

5/7/06 -- Long Island University fired a final-round 305, four strokes better than day one, to finish third at the 2006 Northeast Conference Men's Golf Championship in Orlando, Fla. on Sunday.

Junior Matt Wilson (Toronto, Canada) closed with a final-round 73 to finish in a tie for second and earn all-conference honors. Freshman Greg Nicolson (Edinburgh, Scotland) joined Wilson on the all-conference squad with his tie for tenth place at 154.

The Blackbirds ended four strokes behind first-place St. Francis (Pa.), who finished at 610 over the two-day event. Junior Patrick Kelly (Brisbane, Australia) and freshman Rob Gallagher (Morganton, N.C.) each carded two-day totals of 157 to tie for 20th. Freshman Kyle Margentina (Homer Glen, Ill.), who was tied for sixth after the first day, finished in a tie for 23rd.

Steve Foisy of SFPA took home medalist honors by two strokes at 148. St. Francis (Pa.)'s Bob Kahn was named NEC Coach of the Year as the Red Flash move on to NCAA regional competition from May 18-20
