Women's Golf Concludes Play at Longwood Invitational

Senior Erica Chong (Hilo, Hawaii) shot a three-round total of 243 to finish in a tie for 19th place at the Longwood Invitational in Farmville, Va. this weekend. The Long Island University women's golf team closed in ninth place in the 13-team event, three strokes ahead of the University of Dayton.

Chong fired rounds of 77, 86 and 80 over the two-day event and was the low Blackbird finisher. Junior Heather Pothier (Truro, Nova Scotia) was the next best Long Island player, finishing six strokes behind Chong at 249.

Methodist University had two golfers record top-five finishes and won the team title by eight strokes over Gardner-Webb. James Madison's Diana Meza won individual medalist honors, edging Methodist's Charlotte Williams by two strokes.

The Blackbirds return to the links on April 5-7 at the Columbia Lion Invitational in Maromack, N.Y.
