3/21/07 --
Junior golfer Heather Pothier (Truro, Nova Scotia) and senior
golfer Patrick Kelly (Brisbane, Australia) were each recipients
of the Northeast Conference Golfer of the Week award for the
week ending on March 20, as announced by the league on Wednesday.
Pothier shot a final-round 79
at the Fairfield Invitational last weekend to tie for the low
round of the tournament and help her to finish in second place.
This mark helped dig LIU out of a 13-stroke deficit to take
the
team
title for the second year in a row.
The runner-up finish was
the third in Pothier’s career, and second this season.
Last season, she also finished in second place at the Fairfield
Invitational, behind teammate Natalie Desjardins. This year, she
had a runner-up close at the Mount St. Mary's Invitational
in the fall season.
For the second week in a row,
Kelly earns weekly honors after finishing in a tie for 14th
at the Fairfield Men's Invitational. Kelly fired a 79 in the
final round to improve on his first-day total by two strokes.
The men's golf team will continue
its season at the Towson Invitational in Towson, Md. on March
30-1. The women will travel to Farmville, Va. to compete in
the Longwood Lancer Invitational on April 1-3.
