Mike Munoz Closes Tied for Third for Men's Golf at Fairfield Invitational

3/8-9/05 -- Senior Mike Munoz (Yucaipa, Calif.) closed tied for third with 155, pacing Long Island to a third-place finish at the Fairfield Invitational in Myrtle Beach, S.C.

Munoz opened play Tuesday with 76, tied for the day's fourth-best round. He closed Wednesday with 79 and ended the tournament just two shots in back of A.J. Mansor from Saint Anselm.

Senior Brad Corcoran (Mississauga, Ontario), the opening-round leader after carding 74, ended the championship tied for seventh with 157. Kevin Allo (San Bernardino, Calif,) was tied for 17th with 163 and fellow senior Ryan Heller (New Hartford, Conn.) closed tied for 21st with 165.

The Blackbirds finished the championship in third place with 640, 10 shots behind Army.

LIU over the weekend will take part in the Lonnie Barton Invitational at Hilton Head, S.C. The tournament is named for the Blackbirds’ coach of eight seasons, who passed away last August following a long bout with cancer. Barton is a three-time Northeast Conference Coach of the Year and in 2004 paced the men’s squad to the league title.
