4/15/06 --
The Long Island University women’s lacrosse team dropped
a 20-9 decision in non-conference action at Le Moyne on Saturday
afternoon.
The Blackbirds (3-10, 2-4 NEC)
were paced by senior Nichole Lopez (Highland Mills, N.Y.) with
four goals.
She also picked
up a pair of groundballs. Junior Amy Rizzo (Jackson, N.J.), LIU’s
season scoring leader, added three goals. Jackie McCormick (Liverpool,
N.Y.) and Ashley Cockram (Orlando, Fla.) each chipped in a goal
apiece.
With 26:10 on the clock, LIU
mounted a 3-1 lead. The Dolphins’ Lisa
McCarthy notched two scores, helping the home team tie the game
at 3-3 with 19:08 remaining, sparking a three goal surge.
Rizzo responded with back-to-back goals to pull the Blackbirds
to a 6-5 deficit. Le Moyne went on a 5-1 run, extending its lead
to 11-6 at the break.
The Dolphins pushed to an 19-6 advantage, scoring eight goals
over a 16 minute span in the second frame. Lopez, McCormick and
Cockram each registered scores but it was not enough to stage
a comeback.
The Blackbirds face Siena on April 19 in non-conference match-up
at LIU Field. Opening draw is at 5:00 pm.
