Lacrosse Drops 18-9 Decision to Quinnipiac

-- Junior Amy Rizzo (Jackson, N.J.) tallied four goals and two assists in an 18-9 loss to Quinnipiac in Northeast Conference women’s lacrosse action at LIU Field on Thursday afternoon. Long Island University falls to 3-10 overall, 2-4 in conference play.

Senior Nichole Lopez (Highland Mills, N.Y.) added two scores and an assist, while classmate Chrissie Carleton (Jackson, N.J.) chipped in a goal and an assist.

The Bobcats jumped out to a 4-0 head start with 20:13 on the clock. At the 17:49 mark, Lopez connected with Rizzo for LIU’s first score.

After a score by QU’s Danielle Mormile, Rizzo found the net with 7:40 showing, cutting the margin to 3 goals. The visitors rallied to a 7-2 advantage at the break behind goals from Melissa Jordan and Lauren Egan.

Carleton registered a goal off a feed from senior Elaine Bonilla (Pennsauken, N.J.) in the opening minute of the second frame. Egan tallied another score with a free position shot, giving the Bobcats an 8-3 lead. Senior Jackie McCormick (Liverpool, N.Y.) countered with an 8-meter shot, pulling the Blackbirds to a four-goal deficit but they would get no closer.

The Blackbirds are back in action for a non-conference match-up versus LeMoyne on Saturday, April 15. Opening draw is at 12:00 p.m.
