4/19/06 -- The
Long Island University women’s lacrosse team posted a 20-14 triumph over non-conference
opponent Siena at LIU Field on Wednesday, ending a four-game
skid.
Senior Nichole Lopez (Highland Mills, NY.) paced the Blackbirds
tying a season-best seven goals followed by classmate Chrissie
Carleton (Jackson, N.J.) with three goals and a season-high seven
assists.
Jackie McCormick (Liverpool, N.Y.) tacked on three goals and
two assists. Senior Ashley Cockram (Orlando, Fla.) chipped in
three goals and junior Amy Rizzo (Jackson, N.J.) added a pair
of scores and handed out four assists. Allison Funk (Lumberton,
N.J.) and Samantha Fishbeck (Btitleimore, Md.) each tallied one
goal apiece.
LIU (4-11, 2-4 NEC) pushed to a 3-1 lead with 19:11 on the clock
when Rizzo connected with Carleton for a score. Siena tied the
game at 4-4 with an unassisted goal by Erin Montgomery at the
11:28 mark.
Funk nailed a free position shot, igniting a 6-0 run capped
off by a goal from Lopez with 5:38 remaining in the opening stanza.
The Saints rallied to a three goal deficit with back-to-back
goals from Lindsey Rosecrans over a 30-second span but LIU extended
its lead to 13-8 at the break behind scores from Carleton and
McCormick.
Rosecrans cut the margin to 13-10 with a goal three minutes
into the second frame but the visitors would get no closer.
The Blackbirds pushed to a six goal advantage (16-10) with
12:09 showing and never looked back, cruising to a 20-14 victory.
The Saints were led by Rosecrans and Michelle Eide with four
goals each.
