The Long Island University women’s lacrosse team posted a 20-14 triumph over non-conference opponent Siena at LIU Field on Wednesday, ending a four-game skid.

Senior Nichole Lopez (Highland Mills, NY.) paced the Blackbirds tying a season-best seven goals followed by classmate Chrissie Carleton (Jackson, N.J.) with three goals and a season-high seven assists.

Jackie McCormick (Liverpool, N.Y.) tacked on three goals and two assists. Senior Ashley Cockram (Orlando, Fla.) chipped in three goals and junior Amy Rizzo (Jackson, N.J.) added a pair of scores and handed out four assists. Allison Funk (Lumberton, N.J.) and Samantha Fishbeck (Btitleimore, Md.) each tallied one goal apiece.

LIU (4-11, 2-4 NEC) pushed to a 3-1 lead with 19:11 on the clock when Rizzo connected with Carleton for a score. Siena tied the game at 4-4 with an unassisted goal by Erin Montgomery at the 11:28 mark.

Funk nailed a free position shot, igniting a 6-0 run capped off by a goal from Lopez with 5:38 remaining in the opening stanza. The Saints rallied to a three goal deficit with back-to-back goals from Lindsey Rosecrans over a 30-second span but LIU extended its lead to 13-8 at the break behind scores from Carleton and McCormick.

Rosecrans cut the margin to 13-10 with a goal three minutes into the second frame but the visitors would get no closer. The Blackbirds pushed to a six goal advantage (16-10) with 12:09 showing and never looked back, cruising to a 20-14 victory.

The Saints were led by Rosecrans and Michelle Eide with four goals each.

LIU returns to NEC action on Friday, April 21, hosting Mount St. Mary’s at 3:00 pm.
