Kayleigh Graves scored four goals but it was not enough as
Long Island
University
dropped
an 8-6 decision to Siena in
women’s college lacrosse action on Sunday. The contest
was the season opener for the Blackbirds (0-1)
Sophomore Amy Rizzo (Jackson, N.J.) and junior Chrissie Carleton
(Jackson, N.J.) each added a goal and an assist in the season-opening
loss.
Siena got on the board first but LIU answered with two goals
in succession. Graves and Carleton pushed the Blackbirds to a
2-1 advantage. The teams traded scores the remainder of the half
with the score knotted at 5-5 at intermission.
Less than minute into the second half, Michelle Iede notched
her second goal of the game to give the Saints a lead they would
not relinquish.
LIU was unable to find the net in the until the 5:54 mark when
Graves registered her fourth tally to pull within two, 8-6.
Senior Patricia Parker (Long Branch, N.J.) had a busy day in
goal, stopping 10 shots.
The Blackbirds travel to Manhattan on Wednesday, March 9. Game
time is set for 3:30 p.m.
