2/9/06 -- Junior guard James Williams (DeSoto, Texas) recorded
25 points but it was not enough as Fairleigh Dickinson rolled
to
its eighth
straight victory, a 96-74 Northeast Conference decision on Thursday
evening at the Wellness, Recreation and Athletic Center.
Freshman forward Donovin McLendon (Miami, Fla.) came of the bench
to score 14 points and sophomore forward Eugene Kotorobai (Richmond
Hill, Ontario) notched 10 rebounds for the Blackbirds (7-13,
4-7 NEC).
Gordon Klaiber paced five FDU players in double figures with
a season-high 30 points, 15 in each half. The Knights (14-8,
11-2 NEC) shot 63 percent from the field and 68.4 percent from
3-point territory for the game.
FDU jumped out to a 12-0 lead with five different players tallying
a field goal. Long Island scored the game’s next five points
to cut the lead to 12-5 following a triple from Williams at the
14:51 mark.
The Knights, however, would push their advantage back to double-digits,
going ahead 25-5 on a pull-up by Michael Peeples with 11:32 showing.
The visitors led 44-28 at the break with eight of its 15 field
goals coming from behind the arc.
FDU pushed ahead to its largest lead of the game, 54-30, after
Klaiber knocked down a 25-footer at the 17:23 mark of the second
period. LIU cut the lead to 11 (76-65) following three consecutive
3-pointers but that would be as close as the Blackbirds would
get.
LIU entertains Monmouth on Saturday, February 11 at 4:00 p.m.
