Men's Basketball Falls at Penn State, 80-64

11/26/05 -- Long Island dropped an 80-64 decision to Penn State on Saturday afternoon at the Bryce Jordan Center. Freshman guard Donovin McLendon (Miami, Fla.) paced the Blackbirds (0-2) in scoring and rebounding, registering 15 points and five rebounds.

The Nittany Lions (3-0) jumped out to a 21-8 advantage midway through the first half. The Blackbirds roared back, converting their next five straight field goal attempts. Sophomore Eugene Kotorobai (Richmond Hill, Ontario) scored five during the 12-2 run and consecutive 3-pointers by he and McLendon pulled LIU to within three, 23-20 at the 6:56 mark.

The Blackbirds continued to fight back, trailing by six (26-20). Two field goals by McLendon and a triple from sophomore guard Randy Jones (West Palm Beach, Fla.) gave the visitors their first lead, 27-26 with 4:10 showing in the first stanza.

PSU fought back, scoring five points in the final 26 seconds of the half to take a 38-32 into the locker room.

The Lions build their advantage to 55-43 at 10:45 mark of the second half. The Blackbirds cut the lead to five (55-50) on a trey from junior guard James Williams (DeSoto, Texas) with 8:49 showing but could get no closer. PSU erupted on a 19-6 run over the next four minutes to take a 74-56 lead en route to its third straight victory.

Penn State shot 56.9 percent from the field in the game, 65.4 percent in the second half. LIU answered with a 40 percent clip but was out-rebounded, 41-26.
