The Blackbirds (9-14, 6-8 NEC) got a game-high 18 points from junior guard James Williams (DeSoto, Texas). Off the bench, sophomore forward Paska Morkeliunas (Kaunas, Lithuania) added 16 points. Freshman Donovin McLendon (Miami, Fla.) corralled a career-high 10 rebounds to go along with six points.

The Colonials (13-11, 9-6 NEC) jumped out to a 10-3 lead to start the contest following a fast break lay-up from Tony Lee at the 14:49 mark. LIU responded, scoring 11 of the game’s next 15 points to tie the game at 14-14. Morkeliunas tallied eight of the Blackbirds’ 11 points during the three-minute drill.

A 3-pointer by A.J. Jackson pushed RMU’s lead to 29-25 with 4:05 left in the half. The Blackbirds, however, answered as an offensive put-back from Esa Maki-Tulokas and a triple from Williams tied the contest for the fifth time in the stanza at 29-all. LIU led 33-32 at intermission.

The visitors took over the lead less than three minutes into the second half on a trey by Colson Senat, 40-37. It would be their last lead as the Black and White put together a 13-0 run over a four-minute period to take a 50-40 advantage with 13:59 remaining. Scott scored six and Williams added five during the spurt which gave the Blackbirds a lead they would not relinquish.

All five starters for Robert Morris reached double figures, paced by Jackson with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Lee notched 14 points and 12 boards.

LIU grabbed a season-high 47 rebounds, topping its previous high of 41 (vs. SFPA on Jan. 12.). The Blackbirds have won five of their past eight contests.

Long Island continues its home stand on Saturday, entertaining St. Francis (PA) at 4:00 p.m. The Athletic Department will induct its seventh Hall of Fame class at halftime of the contest.
