Men's Basketball Signs David Hicks to National Letter-of-Intent for 2007-08 Season

11/14/06 -- Long Island University men’s basketball coach Jim Ferry has announced the signing of David Hicks to a National Letter-of-Intent to join the program in the 2007-08 campaign.

Hicks, a 6-foot-1 guard, played his high school basketball at St. Thomas Academy in Mendota Heights, Minn. He helped lead St. Thomas to a 27-5 record during his senior season in which he averaged 21.0 points and 8.0 rebounds per contest for head coach Jack Zahr. The shooting guard also averaged three steals and two assists as the Cadets advanced to the state tournament, where they finished third.

“ We’re extremely excited for David to be joining our program,” Ferry said. “He’s a great kid, a strong student and can really score the ball. His shooting ability and athleticism will help us replace our key senior perimeter players that we will lose next year.”

A three-year varsity player and two-year starter at St. Thomas, Hicks is currently attending South Kent Preparatory School in South Kent, Conn.

The Blackbirds, who return all five starters from a year ago, are currently 1-0 in the 2006-07 campaign. They travel to Hicks’ native state to face the Golden Gophers of Minnesota on Friday, Nov. 17 at 8:00 p.m. EST.
