Men's Basketball Drops 92-63 Decision at Arizona State

12/28/04 -- Junior Aubin Scott (Hempstead, N.Y.) closed with 13 points, six rebounds and four assists for Long Island, which suffered a 92-63 loss to Arizona State at the ASU Hoops Classic in Tempe, Ariz.

Scott shot 4-of-6 from the floor to fall one point shy of his season best from December 4 at Wagner. His effort helped the Blackbirds (4-5) hit 43 percent (23-of-54) from the field with six 3-pointers.

Sophomore James Williams (DeSoto, Texas) netted 11 points, as did freshman Randy Jones (West Palm Beach, Fla.) off the bench. Sophomore Esa Maki-Tulokas (Forssa, Finland) scored eight points and freshman Albert Forbes (Bronx, N.Y.) grabbed five rebounds.

The Sun Devils (10-1) grabbed a 49-22 halftime lead by shooting 58 percent (19-of-33) from the floor, including 8-of-10 from 3-point range. Arizona State shot 56 percent (9-of-16) overall from beyond the arc against LIU, which entered the contest with the nation's best defense against 3-pointers.

Ike Diogu paced the Sun Devils with 20 points and seven rebounds.

LIU on Wednesday will play Penn State in the consolation game at 6:30 pm EST, marking the second time in three seasons it has faced a member of the Big Ten Conference. The Blackbirds lost at Northwestern on January 4, 2003.
