Men's Soccer Drops 1-0 Decision to Sacred Heart

10/23/05 -- Long Island University dropped a 1-0 decision to Sacred Heart in Northeast Conference men’s soccer action on Sunday afternoon at LIU Field.

The Blackbirds fall to 4-7-1, 1-3-1 NEC while the Pioneers improve to 5-5-5, 2-1-3 NEC.

Sacred Heart scored the game’s lone goal in the 38th minute. Senior Tony Allegro dribbled down the right side sending a cross to the far post. Classmate Neal Shapiro took the pass, heading in the game-winner.

LIU registered an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks but was outshot, 10-8, for the match. Freshman Jukka Lehto led the Blackbirds with three shots.

LIU goalkeeper Alex Fatovic (Falls Church, Va.) and Sacred Heart netminder Matthew Jones each recorded four stops.

The Blackbirds travel to Central Connecticut State on Friday, October 28 for a 3:00 p.m. showdown.
