9/26/04 -- Sophomore Szymon Hryszczyk (Warsaw, Poland) netted his first career goal with 25 seconds left in regulation, pushing Long Island University to a 1-1 tie with third-ranked Michigan on Sunday afternoon at LIU Field.

Following a Michigan foul, Hryszczyk took the free kick from 22 yards out on the left side. He sent the ball into the box and off a Wolverines defender to send the game into the extra period.

LIU missed several scoring opportunities, outshooting Michigan 16-9. Sophomore Omer Rozen (Hashofet, Irarel) saw his best chance come in the 26th minute when goalkeeper Joe Zawacki lost his footing. Rozen’s attempt was sent out of the box by Wolverines midfielder Matt Niemeyer.

Michigan netted its lone goal twelve minutes later. Mychal Turbin took a pass from Ryan Sterba and sent it into the upper shelf just past the outstretched arms of netminder Ryszard Gorski (Aberdeenshire, Scotland).

Neither team was able to gain an advantage in 20 minutes of overtime play, resulting in the draw.

Freshman Loir Roisman (Haifa, Israel) registered a team-high five shots and senior Casey Madigan (Washington Township, N.J.) recorded four. Turpin attempted four of MU’s total nine shots.

Gorski stopped four shots and the team accounted for two saves. Zawacki registered six saves with the Wolverines defense adding two stops.

The Blackbirds (1-3-2) are back in action Friday, October 1 at home vs. Monmouth at 3:30 p.m. The Wolverines (6-1-1) continue their road swing with a Friday night contest at University of Kentucky.
