Blackbirds Continue to Excel in the Pros

7/12/05 -- Former Long Island University athletes Ricardo Ordain (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Brad Corcoran (Mississauga, Ontario) distinguished themselves in their collegiate days and now are also doing so on the professional scene.

Ordain, an All-Northeast Conference and All-New York Region pick in 2004, has competed in six games with the Charlotte Eagles of the United Soccer League. He has helped the squad move into third place just five points off the lead.

He looks to play a huge roll this Wednesday as Charlotte hosts CD Chivas USA from Major League Soccer in the third round of the prestigious Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup. The Eagles advanced thanks to a second round road win over the El Paso Patriots.

Ordain was second for the Blackbirds with four goals, four assists and 12 points in his only season on the squad. His assists were seventh in the league.

Corcoran, a two-time All-NEC Golf honoree, has made strides in the professional ranks. He finished tied for 12th on June 14 at a Great Lakes Tour event in Ontario, carding 69 in the one-round event with eight birdies.

Corcoran was a key member of the 2003-04 squad which captured the NEC title and advanced to the NCAA East Regionals. He finished tied for second at this year's NEC Championship, helping the Blackbirds also close tied for second.
