--Three
different players registered goals to lift Long Island University
to a 3-1 victory over
Robert Morris at North
Athletic Complex in Northeast Conference men’s soccer
action on Sunday.
The Colonials took the early lead on a goal from John DelGreco
in the eighth minute. The Blackbirds tied the contest in the
37th minute on a score from freshman Ryan Vanderkin (Plymouth,
Wisc.), his first goal of the season. Vanderkin took a cross
from Ricardo Ordain (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and found room inside the
near post from 20 yards out.
Knotted at 1-1 at the half, Ordain registered the game-winner
in the 65th minute. The graduate student flipped the ball in
the air, drilling a side-volley scissors kick into the box. LIU
got insurance on a breakaway goal from Mustapha Ayoub in the
87th minute. Senior defender Josh Couvillion (New Orleans, La.)
assisted on the two second-half scores.
The Blackbirds
host non-conference opponent Lehigh on Tuesday, November 2
at 7:00 p.m.
