9/19/04 -- Long Island University posted its first win of the season, dropping Iona College 1-0 in men's soccer action at Mazzella Field on Sunday in New Rochelle, N.Y.

Senior defender Josh Couvillion (New Orleans, La.) broke a scoreless tie, netting a pentitley kick into the lower right corner with less than six minutes remaining. The goal was Couvillion's second career goal.

After posting just three shots in the first half, LIU amassed 14 in the second stanza. They out-shot the Gaels 17-11 for the game.

Ryszard Gorski (Aberdeenshire, Scotland) recorded five saves while his counterpart, Patrick McAllen registered four.

The Blackbirds (1-3-1) return to action on Sunday, September 26 hosting Michigan at 12:00 p.m.. The contest is part of soccer alumni weekend as an alumni game will commence at 9:00 a.m.
