The strength and conditioning program at LIU
is designed to help student-athletes maximize their athletic
potential and performance while reducing the
risk of injury.
Coordinated by
Ken Tavani, specialized workout programs are tailored to enhance
athletes physical
abilities in their specific sports as each sport places different
demands
on the body. Included in his
regimen are weight-training, power and speed training, flexibility
training, plyometrics and conditioning.
Most of the work in these areas takes place during preseason and offseason
conditioning programs. Progress made during these periods is maintained
over the course of the season.
The weight-training room, located in the basement
of the athletic center, offers a full range of equipment to meet
the diverse needs
of the student-athletes. Recently, more than $20,000 was invested
on additional equipment, including two new treadmills and stationary
bikes,
new dumbells and a new iso-lateral shoulder press machine in
order to provide one of the most complete facilities in the conference.
