Softball Announces Fall Schedule; Set to Begin Action This Weekend

9/13/06 -- Long Island University head softball coach Roy Kortmann has announced his 2006 fall schedule today. The schedule is highlighted by an Oct. 14 doubleheader with Hofstra and Rutgers. The games will be held in Hempstead, N.Y. on the campus of the Pride, an NCAA Tournament team from a season ago.

The Blackbirds open play Sept. 16-17 with four games at the University of Connecticut. LIU will play the host Huskies on Sept. 16, followed by a game against Providence. The next day, the Blackbirds will face UConn for a second time and will follow up with a game against UMass.

The following weekend, St. John's will play host to a three-team series that will also feature Northeast Conference opponent Sacred Heart.

Last season, Long Island finished 34-23, won its ninth NEC tournament crown and advanced to the NCAA Softball Championship.
