Freshman Hurler Giles Named NEC Pitcher of the Week For Second Time

 

 

3/27/06 -- Long Island University freshman Jenny Giles (Melbourne, Fla.) was named Northeast Conference Pitcher of the Week on Monday afternoon for the second time this season.

Giles helped the Blackbirds to a pair a victories this past weekend at the Stony Brook Invitational on Saturday. She tied a season-best seven strikeouts and allowed only four hits in a 1-0 triumph over the host Seawolves. The Sunshine State hurler pitched seven innings in a 7-1 win over Fairfield on Sunday, giving up five hits and allowed no earned runs.

The newcomer came into the championship game in relief and pitched 4.1 innings, surrendering three earned runs in a 7-5 loss to the Stags.

Giles posted a 1.16 ERA in 18.1 innings pitched, while striking out 12 for the week.
