Freshman Hurler Giles Named NEC Pitcher of the Week

3/13/06 -- Long Island University freshman Jenny Giles (Melbourne, Fla.) was selected the Northeast Conference Pitcher of the Week as released by the league office on Monday afternoon.

In LIU’s 3-3 week, Giles earned all three of the Blackbird victories at the USF adidas Invitational , including a 6-2 win over Michigan State on Friday. Against the Spartans, the Florida native tossed a four-hitter with four strikeouts.

In a 4-1 victory over Boston University, Giles fired a four-hitter, surrendering only one run while striking out five.

In LIU’s 4-2 win over Wright State, Giles came into the game in relief, pitching three innings and giving up only two hits for the win. The Blackbirds held the lead for six innings against host USF with Giles only allowinng two earned runs in the 3-2 set-back. In the six games in the Sunshine State, Giles posted a 1.43 ERA.
