Jenny Giles Earns Second Consecutive Northeast Conference Pitcher of the Week Award

 

 

4/23/07 -- For the second consecutive week, Jenny Giles (Melbourne, Fla.) has earned the Northeast Conference Pitcher of the Week award. The sophomore went 3-0 on the week and extended her scoreless innings streak to 42 with three complete-game shutouts.

On Friday, Giles allowed four hits while striking out five in a 16-0 shutout of Fairleigh Dickinson. The following day, the Florida product scattered five hits over seven innings against Monmouth, who entered the week ranked second nationally in batting average and fifth in runs scored per game.

In her third appearance of the week, the righthander pitched her fourth two-hitter of the season in a 6-0 victory over Mount St. Mary's. It was her sixth complete-game shutout in a row and eighth overall this year.

With the three victories, Giles improved her record to 15-6 on the season and lowered her ERA to a sparkling 1.68. She currently leads the NEC in victories and shutouts and ranks second in earned run average.

The Long Island University softball team, which has won a program record-tying 18 games in a row, will face Colonial Athletic Association power Hofstra on Tuesday, April 24 for a non-conference affair beginning at 4:00 p.m.
