4/2/07 -- After batting .643 over four games and nearly hitting for the cycle against Wagner, senior Randi Gillespie (San Jose, Calif.) was named the Northeast Conference Player of the Week for the week ending April 2. For Gillespie, it marks the third time this season she has received the award and sixth such occasion of her career.

The senior totaled seven runs, two doubles, two home runs, two stolen bases and a pair of RBI’s over her four games this week and is now batting an NEC-best .455 for the season. The San Jose, Calif. native also leads the conference in on-base percentage (.530) and hits (46) and is tied for first in homeruns (4) and ranks second in slugging percentage (.673).

Against Wagner on Saturday, Gillespie went 5-for-8 over the two games as she helped the Blackbirds start off conference play with a pair of victories. Her solo home run in the first game got LIU on the board and cut the Seahawks' lead to 2-1 in the fifth.

In the second game, she led off the contest with another solo shot and tallied two doubles and a single en route to her first four-hit game this season. She leads the team with 14 multi-hit games and is currently in the midst of a 10-game hitting streak.

Long Island looks to extend its season-best seven game winning streak this weekend with a pair of road conference doubleheaders. The Blackbirds face Fairleigh Dickinson on Friday, April 6 and then continue on to play Sacred Heart on Saturday, April 7.
