4/16/05 -- Senior Briana Mathiesen (Sylmar, Calif.) blasted a two-out, two-run homer in the top of the seventh inning of game one in Long Island University's 2-1 Northeast Conference victory at Mount St. Mary's before a 10-0 loss in Emmitsburg, Md.

Junior Alissa Villanueva (Pacoima, Calif.) laced a two-out single through the left side in the seventh and Mathiesen followed with her 22nd career long ball, breaking the mark previously held by Sonia Zapata (2001-04). It also was Mathiesen's seventh homer of the year, one behind the school's single-season mark set by Mandy Myers in 1999.

Westminster, Calif. senior Jackie Brown (6-10) retired the last seven batters of the contest for her fourth straight victory. She permitted one run and four hits over seven innings with three strikeouts.

Reanna Tuczynski (3-7) was the hard-luck loser for the Mountaineers, allowing two runs and six hits over seven innings with two strikeouts. Mount St. Mary's scored its run in the third on Kathleen Housman's RBI double.

The Mountaineers in game two plated six runs in the third inning for a 7-0 lead. Housman, who finished the doubleheader 4-for-4 with four RBI, again was on the spot as her two-run double to left keyed the inning.

Reno, Nev senior Chelsea Crosby (4-13) gave up five runs and four hits over 2 1/3 innings with five walks for the Blackbirds, who had their five-game winning streak halted. Sophomore Holly Erwin (Riverside, Calif.) collected a hit and is batting .385 (5-for-13) during a five-game hitting streak.

Maria Lutz (4-6) faced just four batters above the minimum for the Mountaineers in a four-hit shutout.

LIU plays its next three doubleheaders at home, beginning Wednesday against St. John's. First pitch is at 3:00 pm.
