Cross Country Competes at NEC Championships

10/29/05 -- Long Island University cross country program finished the season at the Northeast Conference Championship, on Saturday in Loretto, Pa. Junior Craig Cocchio (Windsor, Ontario) led the men for the fourth time this season, placing 12th with a time of 27:19.

Trailing Cocchio were Gerardo Calixto (27:57), Steven McElligott (28:47) and Igdalias Mendez (30:58).

Ryan Sheehan of host St. Francis (Pa.) took first place, helping the Red Flash take the team title.

Sophomore Heather Wolfe (Honeoye Falls, N.Y.) paced the women with a time of 21:08. Seniors Jaimie Smith (Burtonsville, Md.) and Nichole Lopez (Highland Mills, N.Y.) followed Wolfe with times of 23:01 and 23:32, respectively.

Quinnipiac's Kaitlyn Gwyther captured first place on the women's side, with Sacred Heart earning top team honors.
