Craig Cocchio Named Northeast Conference Cross Country Athlete Of The Week

10/25/05 –Long Island University junior Craig Cocchio (Windsor, Ontario/Vincent Massey Sec.) was named the Northeast Conference Cross Country Athlete of the Week today.

Cocchio has led the Blackbirds in three races this season. In LIU’s latest competition, the Central Connecticut State Mini Meet, he placed third with a time of 15:51.

The Ontario native ran a personal best of 26:49.4 at the 11th annual Brother John “Paddy” Doyle Meet of Champions. The meet was hosted by Iona College at Van Cortlant Park in the Bronx.

On October 15, Cocchio paced LIU in the Albany Invitational placing 21st with a time of 25:39. Last season, Cocchio placed 17th in the NEC Cross Country Championships (27:15.5).

LIU’s next competition is Saturday, Oct. 29 at the NEC Championships in Loretto, Pa.
